At a press meeting at the National Gallery of Iceland, it was revealed that the Left Green Movement under Prime Minister Jakobsdóttir will be in charge of the Ministry of Health (MP Svandis Svavarsdóttir), and the Ministry for the Environment (Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson). The office of Speaker of the House/president of Alþingi, the Icelandic Parliament also goes to the Left Green Movement (MP Steingrímur J. Sigfússon).The chairman of the Independence Party, MP Bjarni Benediktsson, will be in charge of the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Fishing and Agriculture will be headed by MP Kristján Þór Júlíusson. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MP Guðlaugur Þórðarson), the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Innovation (MP Þórdís Kolbrún R. Gylfadóttir) as well as the Ministry of Justice (Sigríður Á. Andersen) also fall under the domain of the Independence party. The Progressive Party will head up the Ministries for Culture and Education (MP Lilja Alfreðsdóttir), the Ministry of Transport and the Interior, and the Ministry for Social Services and Equality (Ásmundur Einar Daðason). The governmental agreement puts great emphasis on the restructuring of the health care system, the educational system, the transport system in Iceland and to mantain economic stability. Environmental matters are also at the forefront with the agreement going further in matters regarding global warming than the Paris agreement calls for, and an outsider called in to head the Ministry for the Environment. PM Jakobsdóttir also proclaimed that emphasis will be put on equality of the sexes and the treatment of sexual offences in Iceland and changes to the judicial system there to. LGBT rights will also be addressed and more refugees will be accepted to Iceland. According to the leader of the Independence Party and former PM Bjarni Benediktsson: “All Icelanders will enjoy the benefits of this agreement, both with regards to social security and general prosperity”.
