STROKKUR AND THE GEYSER AREA
You probably did not know that the english name “geyser”, derives from the one and only in the Haukadalur area. The geyser Geysir itself erupts boiling water up to 70 meters, but is almost inactive. Strokkur, only few meters apart from Geyser, erupts on average every 4 minutes.
GULLFOSS, GOLDEN WATERFALL AND FAXI
Near Geysir is the beautiful Gullfoss Waterfall. Enjoy the view from above and walk down the path to get close to the powerful waterfall. Close by is Faxi, waterfall.
THINGVELLIR AND ÖXARÁRFOSS
Thingvellir is characterized by tectonic rift valley and marks the rifting of the Eurasian and North American plates from each other. In 930 the Icelandic Parliament, the first democracy in the world, was established at Thingvellir. Thingvellir became a World Heritage Site in 2004. Öxarárfoss is a waterfall at Thingvellir.
SNORKELLING IN SILFRA, THINGVELLIR
The Silfra Fissure is one of Iceland’s most beautiful snorkeling spots. Located in the heart of Thingvellir National Park, this narrow channel of blue waters meandering through a giant lava field does not look like much on the surface. But below, supernatural shades of blue, perfect visibility and incredible rock formations form a magical underwater paradise. This tour is available throughout the year and the snorkelling is amazing, in both winter and summer. Silfra, often classified as one of the ten most beautiful dive sites in the world, with up to 100 meters of underwater visibility, is a wonderful site, that no snorkeler should miss, while in Iceland.
