Former bus terminal building at Hlemmur square, has reopened as Hlemmur mathöll – Hlemmur Food Hall, in what seems like a well-thought out gentrification move for this once rather dismal area of town at the other end of high street Laugavegur. The Hlemmur food hall includes a variety of fresh produce stalls, vegetable and flower stalls, as well as restaurants, bars, a bakery and a coffee shop. The Hlemmur Food Hall is open from 8 am to 11 pm although individual opening times of stalls may vary. The food hall still serves its original purpose, as people waiting for buses are welcome to sit inside the building which offers plenty of benches and tables. The Hlemmur food hall is also a welcome addition for locals who now have a perfect pit stop for a light lunch or an after-work glass of wine, as well as bakery, a vegetable stall and a flower shop on their doorstep, with outdoor market stalls opening in the next few weeks.
