80-year-old Icelander celebrates his 1500th ocean swim in 4°C ocean at Nauthólsvík beach, Reykjavik.

Eighty-year-old Haukur Bergsteinsson swears by cold ocean swims for good health, after finishing his 1500th swim at Nauthólsvík beach in Reykjavik. Bergsteinsson, who turns 81 this year and swam 200 metres this time says that the sea was at a temperature of 4 degrees on Celsius. “It’s an incredible feeling,” he says, when asked about how it feels to swim in the cold ocean. “I started in the spring of 2008, I just wanted to see if I could do this and just got in for a minute at a time, increasing the amount of time each time. I also started noting down the times I swam.”
